Class Policies

  • Behavior: I use the school-wide clip chart in my classroom. At the end of the day I will circle the level the scholar ended the day on, and sign their DLP. Please make sure to sign the DLP each night and read any notes from teachers. You are also welcome to leave notes for us. This is a great way for everyone to communicate with and support each other.
    • Scholars will start each new day on “Ready to Learn.”

    • Scholars will earn points for being at or above “Ready to Learn” at the end of the day. They will be able to use these points to buy prizes throughout the year.

    • Scholars who are on “Reminder” at the end of the day will not receive any points.

    • Scholars who are on “Reflecting” at the end of the day will not receive any points, and will be required to write a sentence or two telling me how they will change their behavior the following day.

    • Any time a scholar is on “Contact Home,” they will call their parents immediately to explain what is happening. Together, the parent and scholar will decide what the best course of action is for the scholar.

  • Absences: If you are absent, I will gather any work you missed and give it to you when you return. If you would like work before you leave on a trip or other extended absence, please give me a few days notice and I will do the best I can to gather it for you.

  • Homework: For the most part, scholars will have homework in Reading and Math. I may occasionally send home a project, but these will be rare.

    • We will not keep scholars in from recess to work on homework, so it is very important that homework is completed at home.

    • If you are having trouble getting homework done at home, please let me know and we will brainstorm some ideas together. I will do everything I can to help scholars succeed, and finishing assignments is essential to success.

    • If scholars would like to have extra work to do at home, please contact me and I will help you find some good resources.

  • Birthdays: Each scholar is welcome to bring a birthday treat on their birthday, or the closest school day to their birthday. (Those with summer birthdays will celebrate on the closest school day to their half-birthday). Bringing a treat is not required. If you choose to bring a treat, it must be store-bought, and please do not bring anything with peanuts or peanut butter as we have some allergies this year. We will also sing to the scholar and they will be able to choose a small prize.
